Reimagining the logo for Yves Saint Laurent’s Black Opium fragrance.

PERSONAL PROJECT 

I decided to undertake the challenge of recreating a typographic logo for Yves Saint Laurent’s fragrance, Black Opium, which is a recent iteration of their once-controversial best-seller, Opium. Launched in 2014, Black Opium is a seductive fragrance with a captivating blend of musk, florals, and a hint of black coffee, all elegantly packaged in a glamorous black glitter bottle.

My objective for this project was to capture the feminine and seductive qualities of the fragrance, along with the sensation of the scent enveloping the body. YSL is a renowned brand known for its bold and modern aesthetic. I aimed to stay true to the brand’s core principles, maintaining an elevated presentation. To achieve this, I employed flowing lines and organic curves inspired by Art Nouveau typography, harmonized with a modern sans-serif style. Through this project, I was able to highlight my skill in developing typography that enhances a product’s overall branding and messaging.
